Rory McAllister on target as Peterhead beat Dundee
A Rory McAllister double saw Ladbrokes League One side Peterhead shock Premiership Dundee - and put themselves in contention to win Group A in the Betfred Cup.
Greg Stewart hit a late goal to give Dundee hope but hosts Peterhead held on to win 2-1.
The visitors had the better of the first half, but were dealt a blow after 27 minutes when Mark O'Hara was forced off with an injury sustained in a clash with Peterhead's American midfielder Kevin Dzierzawski.
Paul McGowan replaced O'Hara in the midfield and had a positive impact on the game, forcing Graeme Smith into a smart stop after 36 minutes and flashing another effort wide shortly after.
Craig Wighton looked like he may be the man to make the breakthrough as he burst into the area three minutes before the break, but Scott Rumsby timed his challenge to perfection.
Dundee captain Darren O'Dea sent a header flashing wide as the visitors piled on the pressure before the interval.
The Dark Blues continued to dominate possession but Peterhead began to come into the game and Jordon Brown flashed an effort high and wide after being played in by McAllister.
McAllister soon drew a foul from Julen Etxabeguren 20 yards out and, gambling that the wall would jump, drove the resultant free-kick low, a slight deflection leaving Scott Bain helpless.
And when McAllister spun Etxabeguren in the 88th minute before being brought down by Bain, the striker stepped up and confidently sent his spot-kick high to the goalkeeper's right.
Stewart clipped a neat left-footed strike beyond Smith in injury time but Peterhead held on and will pip East Fife to top spot if they win at rock-bottom Dumbarton on Saturday.
